Billström: Sweden is trying to prevent disrespect to the Quran.
According to Anatolia news agency, Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström stressed in a phone call with Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf: “We are trying to change the law and prevent the repetition of heinous attacks against the Quran.”
According to the website of the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Billström claimed that there are constitutional restrictions that limit the ability of the Swedish government to prevent such ugly behavior, and claimed: “I am very sorry for the occurrence of such “hateful” actions in my country! We are trying to prevent the desecration of the Quran from happening again!
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria also pointed to Sweden’s values such as coexistence and helping without discrimination, and stated: disrespecting the Holy Quran is also in conflict with Sweden’s values and traditions.
On Monday, Algeria summoned the ambassador of Copenhagen and the charge d’affaires of Stockholm in response to the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden and Denmark.
In this regard, members of a Danish far-right anti-Islamic group once again desecrated a copy of the Holy Quran in front of the Pakistani embassy in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark.
