Biden’s letter to Congress; The withdrawal of Afghanistan from the list of important US allies.
In a letter to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the President of the United States announced that he would remove Afghanistan from Washington’s list of “important non-NATO allies”.
America, which left Afghanistan last year after 20 years of war and occupation, is now considering removing Afghanistan from Washington’s important allies.
On Thursday morning (Tehran time), American media, such as CNN, reported on the letter of President Joe Biden to Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic Speaker of the House of Representatives, on the issue of Afghanistan.
According to this report, in a letter to his party colleague, Democrat Joe Biden announced the US government’s intention to remove Afghanistan from the list of “important non-NATO allies”.
The US President’s letter states: “Pursuant to Section 517 of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961…I am submitting my notice to revoke the designation of Afghanistan as a major non-NATO ally.”
The US, which launched a war of occupation against Afghanistan in 2001, recognized Afghanistan as an important non-NATO ally in 2012.
The countries whose names are on the list of major non-NATO allies of the United States can buy weapons and technologies from this country, which are prohibited from being sold to non-members of the North Atlantic Treaty (NATO).
Biden’s letter about America’s decision to remove Afghanistan from this list was issued in a situation where his government withdrew all American troops from the country after 20 years of occupation in August 2021, a few days after the Taliban took control of the Afghan capital.
According to American and Western media reports, Washington and other NATO member countries have suspended all military support to Afghanistan since the withdrawal from Afghanistan.
America has removed Afghanistan from the list of its important allies, while the Taliban officials have repeatedly criticized America’s positions in recent months and have also demanded that America release the blocked assets of Afghanistan.
