Biden’s dramatic action against the Palestinians.
In a show of strength, the current US administration overturned one of the former administration’s decisions on the Palestinians and separated the Office of Palestinian Affairs from the US Embassy in Jerusalem.
The Biden administration recently overturned the Donald Trump administration’s decision to build a US embassy in the Occupied Territories to engage with the Palestinians.
According to Axius news website, this symbolic action sends the message that US relations with the Zionist regime and US relations with the Palestinians are different.
The move comes as US President Joe Biden is scheduled to travel to the occupied territories next month to meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
The Biden government is still trying to reopen its consulate in Jerusalem, which has been in charge of diplomatic affairs with the Palestinian Authority for 25 years. The Trump administration closed the consulate in 2019.
The Zionist regime strongly opposes the idea of reopening the consulate, but the Biden government believes that the separation of the Palestinian Affairs Office from the US Embassy in the Occupied Territories is a small step in this direction.
When the Trump administration moved the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and then closed its consulate in Jerusalem, then-US Ambassador to the Occupied Territories David Friedman reduced the US diplomatic mission to the Palestinians and took control of the office. The US embassy in Israel has been removed and all symbols of Palestinian sovereignty in Jerusalem have been removed.
The US diplomats who worked at the consulate continued to work under the Palestinian Affairs Unit at the US Embassy in Israel. The consulate’s direct reporting channel to Washington has been canceled, and any reports submitted to the State Department or other government agencies must be approved by Friedman.
