President Joe Biden said on Monday the threat of Russian President Vladimir Putin using tactical nuclear weapons is “real”, days after denouncing Russia’s deployment of such weapons in Belarus.
According to Yahoo News, in response to the deployment of Russia’s tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, US President Joe Biden warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s threats to use nuclear weapons if necessary are a real threat and should be taken seriously.
He said: When I became president two years ago, I said that I was worried about the drying up of the Colorado River, and everyone looked at me like I was crazy. When I said about the possibility of Putin using nuclear weapons, they treated me the same way. This threat (Putin) is real.
This threat by Joe Biden comes while US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on Friday, in response to the deployment of the first shipment of tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, that there are no signs of Russia’s intention and decision to use nuclear weapons.
Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Friday that Russia’s first shipment of tactical nuclear warheads had been deployed on Belarusian soil.
Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko announced last Wednesday that Russia has begun receiving shipments of tactical nuclear weapons, saying that some of these weapons are three times more powerful than the atomic bombs that the United States dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, this is the first time that Moscow moves these nuclear warheads outside of Russian territory; Weapons with a shorter range, compared to other nuclear weapons, have less power and can be used on the battlefield.
The United States and its allies, as well as Beijing, which has always warned against the use of nuclear weapons in the Ukraine war, have announced that they will carefully monitor this action.
In an interview with “Russia-1” TV channel, Lukashenko said: We have the missiles and bombs we received from Russia. The bombs are three times more powerful than those dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Washington made Japan the target of atomic bombing in August 1945. Hiroshima was bombed on August 6th and Nagasaki was bombed 6 days later. America is still the only country that has used atomic bombs in war.
The Belarusian president, who is considered a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, also previously said that nuclear weapons would be physically transferred to Belarus in a few days, and that, if necessary, Minsk would have facilities It is also available to store long-range missiles.
Putin said on Friday last week that Russia will transfer these weapons to Minsk after preparing special facilities in Belarus, and that the control of these nuclear weapons is also in Moscow’s hands.
In March, referring to the deployment of American nuclear weapons in European countries for several decades, the Russian president announced that he had reached an agreement with Lukashenko to deploy tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus. Lukashenko also said that these weapons create a deterrent against possible aggression. Belarus shares a border with three NATO member countries, namely Lithuania, Latvia and Poland.
