Biden new plan; Sending hundreds of American commandos to Somalia.
The US President has ordered the deployment of hundreds of commandos to Somalia to relocate to the African country under the pretext of confronting terrorist groups.
Informed sources said Monday evening, Tehran time, that US President Joe Biden had sent hundreds of special operations forces back to Somalia.
According to the New York Times, three informed officials also said that Biden had approved the Pentagon’s request to show permanent authority in targeting about a dozen suspected leaders of the al-Shabaab al-Qaeda-linked Somali terrorist group.
Biden’s move runs counter to his decision last year to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan. Informed officials said Biden and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin had discussed the matter.
The al-Shabaab terrorist group has been trying to overthrow the legitimate government of Somalia since 2008 and has since carried out numerous terrorist operations in Mogadishu and other Somali cities, killing scores of people.
National Security Council spokesman Adrienne Watson also confirmed the move, saying it would make a more effective fight against al-Shabaab possible. Watson did not specify the number of troops the army would deploy, but two other U.S. intelligence officials said the number would be about 450.
A senior Biden government official said the Biden government’s strategy in Somalia was to try to reduce the al-Shabaab threat by suppressing its ability to carry out complex operations.
Afrikam, the US military base on the African continent, has always claimed in its air strikes that no civilians were killed or wounded. For years, the United States has carried out airstrikes in Somalia, claiming to support the weak UN-backed government, and its civilians have been killed in US airstrikes.
