Biden: NATO’s doors are open to all eligible countries.
On Tuesday evening, after Sweden and Finland signed the document of accession to NATO, the American president said that the doors of this military alliance are open to all countries that meet the conditions to join.
US President Joe Biden said on Tuesday evening that Finland and Sweden decided to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) for greater security and stability in the world.
He then signed the document of the joining of Sweden and Finland to this military alliance and said that with our allies and partners, we will draw the future we want.
Biden emphasized: “Together we will counter any invasion or threat of invasion, and the strength of NATO and America’s commitment to NATO are stronger than ever.”
The American president added: “The doors of NATO are open to all countries that have the conditions to join it.”
He added: “Putin wanted to weaken NATO, but two new members were added to this alliance.”
“We will work with our allies to strengthen NATO’s Eastern Front and be able to face the new challenges that have been created for Europe,” Biden said.
With the signature of Joe Biden, which finalizes this resolution, the plan to join the NATO alliance of these two countries, which was the main culprit of the escalation of tensions in Ukraine, will be approved by the United States.
Reuters news agency wrote in a report on Tuesday, American senators have described Finland and Sweden as important allies with modern armies and close cooperation with NATO.
The plan for these two Nordic countries to join NATO must be approved by the parliaments of all 30 NATO member countries, but there is a possibility that the Turkish parliament will refuse to approve the agreement related to their joining NATO. Turkey initially opposed the joining of these two countries to NATO. Ankara backed off this opposition last month, but said there was still a possibility that the country would not support the merger of Sweden and Finland.
Reuters wrote that the process of approving the membership of these countries in the area of EU members may take a year.
