Biden: It is not the time to stop negotiating with Iran.
Stating that progress has been made in the Vienna talks, the US president said it was not time to give up.
US President Joe Biden on Thursday morning confirmed the progress made in the Vienna talks.
“It is not time to give up,” Biden told a news conference describing his first year in office. “Progress is being made, but we have to see [what happens].”
Asked by a Reuters reporter if he could hope to reach an agreement in the Vienna talks to return the two sides to the nuclear deal or to surrender, he explained: “On the contrary, we should not surrender … “The United States and the countries negotiating with Iran are in agreement.”
Earlier, Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s representative in the Vienna talks, said that a trilateral meeting had been held between the Iranian, Chinese and Russian delegations to review the status of the talks on lifting sanctions on Iran.
The eighth round of talks on lifting sanctions in Vienna began a few weeks ago. U.S. and European officials have previously said that progress has been made in the negotiations, but that the scale of the progress is not enough to hope that an agreement will be reached.
Earlier, European diplomats said that much of the talks in recent days had focused on Iran’s demands for a guarantee of stability.
