Biden: America is drowning in weapons of war.
The President of the United States expressed his concern about the increase in the number of weapons of war in his country and, referring to the deadly shootings in schools, said that families do not have peace.
In a speech at Wilkes University in Pennsylvania, US President Joe Biden promised to try to deal with the issue of deadly shootings in his country, which sometimes lead to the death of elementary school children.
Referring to recent deadly school shootings, the US president said: “Many families are not at peace. They watch the news and see that almost every night children are shot dead in schools and on the streets. “You turn on the news and this is what you see.”
“People are seeing their neighbors lose loved ones to drugs like fentanyl,” Biden said of his Safe America plan, which aims to fight crime. They see that it is hatred, anger and violence that is going on in the streets of America and they want to feel calm again; They will taste security again, and this is the goal of my plan.”
Elsewhere in his remarks, Biden said he plans to limit the use of assault weapons and tighten gun control laws, although he is not opposed to guns in general.
He said: “We live in a country that is drowning in weapons of war; Weapons that are not designed to hunt but to kill the enemy. For God’s sake, tell me what is the logic of having so many weapons outside the war zone? “They cause severe damage.”
Biden’s statements were made in the context of two deadly shootings, one in “Buffalo” New York and the other in “Yuald” Texas, once again brought the issue of the gun lobby and the freedom to bear arms to the fore.
Ten people were killed and three were injured in the Buffalo shooting that took place on May 14. 10 days later, the shooting of Rob Elementary School in Yolande, Texas, took place, during which an 18-year-old youth killed 19 elementary school students and 2 teachers and injured 17 others.
A comparison of gun violence statistics between the United States and other countries in the world shows that the United States has recorded completely different statistics in this regard. The rate of violent shootings in this country is higher than any other country in the world; Although the United States accounts for about five percent of the world’s population, nearly 31 percent of those who commit mass murders with weapons are in the United States.
Various analyzes have been presented about the reasons for this issue, but the freedom to carry weapons by citizens is often considered the most important and main cause of this problem.
The data provided by “CNN” based on the report of the US Congressional Research Center shows that Americans own about half (48%) of the total 650 million civilian weapons available around the world.
Countless other studies that have approached this issue with other research methods have always identified the freedom of gun ownership and ease of access as the most important variable predicting fatal shootings in the United States.
