Biden again retreated from his line and signs for Saudi Arabia.
An American newspaper reported that the president of this country has abandoned his threats and warnings a few months ago to take retaliatory measures against Saudi Arabia.
The Wall Street Journal, quoting American and Saudi officials, reported that US President Joe Biden backed off his threats of retaliating against Riyadh a few months ago in response to the country’s action in OPEC Plus.
The Wall Street Journal claimed that the Biden administration instead seeks to strengthen security cooperation to confront Iran in 2023.
Officials quoted by this newspaper have claimed that the drop in fuel prices in the United States, the relatively decent performance of the Democrats in the mid-term congressional elections and the growing concerns about Iran have eased the tensions between the two countries that started in October after the Saudi side refused to respond to the White House’s request for The delay in oil production cuts had reached its peak.
Saudi Arabia’s move to lead OPEC+ efforts to cut oil production exactly a month before the US midterm elections fueled concerns about rising inflation and prompted the Biden administration to announce it would work with Congress to punish Saudi Arabia.
Biden administration officials now tell the Wall Street Journal that he has no plans to follow through on the threat. Instead, officials from both countries say they are pursuing new military and intelligence projects aimed at containing Iran amid stalled efforts to return to the JCPOA.
In December, the Biden administration and Saudi officials tried to derail a congressional bill seeking to cut off U.S. intelligence support for Saudi Arabia in the Yemen war.
