Baghdad: Iran and Saudi Arabia reach memorandum of understanding.
Referring to the forthcoming visit of a delegation from Tehran to Baghdad, the Iraqi Foreign Minister said that the Islamic Republic of Iran and Saudi Arabia had reached a memorandum of understanding.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein stressed on Monday that the problems of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Turkey and Iraq on security issues should be resolved through dialogue.
Hussein told Al-Jazeera news channel that a delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran was scheduled to travel to Iraq after Eid al-Fitr to discuss various issues, especially security issues.
He said the reasons given by Turkey for justifying its military operations on Iraqi soil were not enough, citing the presence of US advisers in Iraq to help Iraqi forces, and that this was done after an agreement was reached with the Iraqi government.
Noting that Iran and Saudi Arabia had reached a 10-point memorandum of understanding, the Iraqi foreign minister claimed that an attack on US forces in Iraq was an “attack on the [Iraqi] government and national interests.”
However, after the martyrdom of Haj Qassem Soleimani, the late commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and Abu Mahdi al-Mohandes, the deputy head of the Al-Hashd al-Shabi organization, the Iraqi parliament approved the expulsion of American troops.
The resolution was passed in 2009, but has not been fully implemented due to sabotage by some Iraqi politicians and US obstruction. Although the Americans claimed to be leaving Iraq, the Iraqi military remained in Iraq as an adviser.
“The political stalemate over the election of a prime minister and the formation of a cabinet will continue,” Fuad Hussein concluded, noting that Iraq was affected by the war in Ukraine and that its wheat reserves were only enough for two months. “And at the moment, there is no solution.”
