The head of Iraq’s Radioactive Resources Control Organization said Baghdad had reached an agreement with the United States, France, and Russia to speed up the construction of nuclear reactors.
Kamal Hussein Latif, head of the Iraqi Radioactive Resources Control Organization, announced on Thursday evening that Iraq had reached an agreement with three countries to speed up the construction of nuclear reactors.
According to the official Iraqi news agency (WAA), Latif said that the government committee for the construction of nuclear reactors for research purposes and in order to review the data of the phase and approved principles for the construction of the reactor in accordance with the instructions of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The meetings included two visits to the Russian embassy and a meeting with the Russian ambassador and advisor to Russia Atom.
Kamal Hussein Latif added that in these meetings, “an agreement has been agreed on that this agreement has many clauses and will play a role in accelerating the construction of the reactor.”
“Iraq is looking to work together with France and the European Union to develop nuclear capabilities,” Latif said, noting that another meeting will be held with some French officials at the embassy to discuss Iraq’s need for a nuclear reactor to generate electricity. The head of the Iraqi Radioactive Resources Organization also announced that Baghdad is requesting a meeting of US experts in the field, which is being held by a high-level delegation of the committee and some other government officials.
