Atwan: Will Lebanon’s Hezbollah use a preventive war strategy?
While analyzing the current conditions governing West Asia and the special and critical conditions of Lebanon, the editor of Rai Alyoum newspaper did not think that it is unlikely that Lebanon’s Hezbollah will be forced to use the strategy of preventive war and activation of the country’s southern front.
According to political observers, there are currently three conflicts and wars going on in West Asia. The continuation of unrest in Iran, which, according to many media outlets, is associated with the support and incitement of separatists and enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Turkey’s new operation against northern Iraq and Syria to retaliate for the recent explosion in Taksim Square in Istanbul, and the continuation of the Zionist regime’s operations against Syrian sovereignty near the borders Lebanon. In the meantime, the question is whether Lebanon, which is in a critical situation, is the fourth country that will open its feet to war and conflict.
Abdulbari Atwan, the editor of Raei Alyoum newspaper, published a note in this regard and wrote that the 79th anniversary of Lebanon’s independence was passed without any official or popular celebration. This country is currently in a presidential vacuum; This may continue for a long time. On the other hand, in the shadow of political tension, an explosion and economic collapse is expected, which the World Bank describes as the most severe collapse in the world.
According to him, “the state of silence that Lebanon is currently experiencing may be temporary and at the same time confusing, because there is fire under the ashes. The demarcation agreement with the occupying [regime] Israel, which was achieved under the supervision of the United States and its envoy Amos Hochstein, is no longer in the interest of the Lebanese, who had counted on it so much, because it will not meet the minimum expectations of prosperity.
He further wrote: “Israel was the biggest beneficiary of this agreement because this agreement legitimized the theft of Lebanese gas and pumped it from its field and exported it to the whole world without restrictions or threats.” While the Qana field in Lebanon is still in its previous state, without any exploration or even investigation to know the volume of its gas reserves. Meanwhile, this gas field; It is a border and common gas field, and it may run out of reserves before Lebanon starts exploiting its fields.
