Associated Press: The Pentagon is facing a severe shortage of soldiers.
The Pentagon says a severe shortage of military personnel for the US military, caused by private contracting companies, has led to the decision to reduce the size of the armed forces.
Despite America’s huge military budget and Washington’s claim to have the largest military in the world, the Pentagon is said to be facing a severe shortage of soldiers.
“Associated Press” news agency reported on Thursday morning that the US Department of Defense plans to reduce the size of the country’s army due to an unprecedented lack of manpower.
According to this report, the American armed forces will lack about ten thousand people next year; Meanwhile, according to General Joseph Martin, Deputy Chief of Staff of the US Army, the forecasts for the coming years look even darker.
According to the Associated Press, the number of American military forces this year instead of the expected number of 476 thousand people is about 466 thousand people and in 2023 it will decrease to a total of 445 thousand people.
Based on this, only two and a half months are left until the end of the US fiscal year and the army of this country has achieved only 50% of its goal of 60,000 soldiers. At this rate, US military leaders believe that this shortage will reach 25% by October 1st.
The Pentagon explains such a difficult situation regarding the shortage of soldiers by the fact that private companies and military contractors offer much more favorable working conditions than the military, so the military simply cannot compete with business, the Associated Press wrote.
The US Ministry of Defense says that in this situation, the only optimal solution is to reduce the size of the armed forces.
Previously, the Pentagon and US lawmakers had acknowledged their concern about the increase in suicides among the USS George Washington crew.
