Arab world turning to Syria, the beginning of a new phase or the US plan?
The Syrian foreign minister met with his Egyptian counterpart on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly for the first time in 10 years. Is this the beginning of a new phase entitled “Syria after stability”?
According to ISNA, Al-Mayadin news network reported: “The meeting between Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Meqdad and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri in New York marks a broader change in the attitude of some Arab countries towards Damascus. There were ministers from Jordan and Saudi Arabia; a meeting that was forbidden by the United States could not happen now without the green light from the United States, is this the beginning of a new phase?
There is no doubt that the will of Syria has triumphed over the siege and weakening. Stability and confrontation and then victory are the results and fruits that the time has come to reap. Although Washington wants the fall of the Syrian regime, but the stability of Damascus and its leadership and the support of allies in defeating all plans of terrorist groups with US support and Arab financial support. has it.
One has to question the truth of what is happening here. Is this a radical change in the confrontation with Damascus or is it a new attempt to get closer to Syria with the aim of moving it away from its allies, especially Iran and the axis of resistance?
In an interview with Al-Mayadin, Faisal Miqdad stressed that the meeting is the beginning of progress in relations forward. Syria welcomes any contact with Western countries.
Western countries created terrorism in Syria, he said. Miqdad called on the United Nations to abide by its charter.
Ahmed al-Kasbari, a member of the Syrian parliament, told Al-Mayadin that Syria has always been open to Arab countries. The Arabs have never been the enemy of Syria, the gates of Damascus have been open to them.
“The current meetings may lead to the normalization of Syria’s relations with Arab countries,” he said. The decision to return Syria to the Arab League may be made in a few months. The meeting between Meqdad and Shukri is probably a special development. The United States may have ignored this, but it is not a radical change in Syria. The US withdrawal from Syria is a matter of course. The US plan has failed because of Syria’s stability and the support of its allies.
“There are predictions in Washington that the Syrian regime will fall in a few months,” said Edmond Gharib, a professor of international relations at the American University in Washington. The Syrian power to reclaim more of its territory brought about these developments.
“It is too early to say whether US policy towards Syria has changed radically,” he said. We see a kind of flexibility in American positions that did not exist before.
On the other hand, Hani Khalaf, the former representative of Egypt in the Arab League, said: “Reasons in Syria, the region and the international community have caused this important change.” We are witnessing developments due to the competence of Damascus in the face of crises. Syria produced very important results when they were asked to discover their chemical weapons and made clear statements.
The new scene and dramatic developments with the arrival of Faisal Meqdad to the UN rostrum showed for the first time since the beginning of the war. This should be taken into account, but it is not enough to be sure of the intentions of the West and the United States, especially since Damascus is firm in its strategy, which was the reason for the war that was imposed against this country.
The West is convinced that it has lost the war in Syria. For 10 years, he used all means to overthrow the Damascus regime. That is why it is looking for other ways, perhaps one of which is the diplomatic channels created by some of its Arab allies with Damascus to divert it from their national and ethnic position at the center of the resistance.
“There have been several meetings between the Syrian ministers and their Arab allies in the past, and the Meqdad and Shukri meetings are one of them, and it expresses the political atmosphere that we have to wait for its transformation and not take full account of it.”
