On Saturday, the US Secretary of State issued a statement announcing the suspension of some of the US government’s foreign aid to Niger following the military coup against the country’s president.
Sputnik news agency reported that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced the temporary suspension of some foreign aid from Washington to the government of Niger while adding that humanitarian and food aid to the country will continue.
At the same time as Washington announced the suspension of foreign aid to the government of Niger, the Economic Group of West African States (ECOWAS) in a meeting in the capital of the Nigerian government announced a plan for a possible military intervention against Niger with the aim of returning the ousted president, Mohammed Bazum, to power.
It should be noted that the soldiers of the Niger army removed him from power in the morning of Thursday (July 27) last week in a military coup against the President of Niger, Mohammed Bazoum, and ordered the closure of border terminals and curfew.
