Ankara-Tel Aviv relations; slogans of support for Palestine at the foot of business promises.
Over the past year, Turkey normalized its political relations with Tel Aviv by abandoning many of its protectionist slogans regarding the Palestinian issue.
Turkey is one of the Islamic countries that claims to have made the slogans of supporting the Palestinian cause one of the principles of its policies in the region.
Turkey’s approach to the Palestinian issue should be examined on two levels; First from the verbal positions and second in the field of executive policies. Until now, Turkey’s verbal position regarding the Palestinian issue and its support has not changed significantly; However, Ankara’s tone towards Tel Aviv has softened considerably. Finally, this softening of words in front of the Zionist regime spread to the field of action, and recently we saw significant changes by Turkey towards Tel Aviv.
The reciprocal visits of the heads of Tel Aviv and Ankara were the first manifestation of the strengthening of bilateral relations; The trips that started with the arrival of “Ishaq Herzog”, the president of the Zionist regime, in Turkey. This was the first visit of a Zionist official to Turkey since 2008 until the last few months.
“Relations between Israel and Turkey have had ups and downs, [but] we know how to build this [relationship] so that it manifests itself in action and mutual respect,” Herzog said in a statement at the airport before flying to Turkey. Israel-Turkey relations are important. “Maybe we don’t agree on everything, but we will try to rebuild the relationship.”
