Amnesty International criticizes the double standards of the West regarding human rights violations.
According to the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” newspaper, according to Amnesty International, the West is doing very little to fight against human rights violations in its allied countries such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the Zionist regime.
Amnesty International has condemned these double standards, pointing to the West’s stubbornness against Moscow and its soft side with its friends on the issue of human rights violations due to the consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine. This human rights organization stated in its annual report: The West’s determined response to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is in sharp contrast with the unfortunate lack of meaningful action to address serious human rights violations by some of the West’s allies, including the Zionist regime, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. Is.
Agnes Callamard, Secretary General of Amnesty International, said: “Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a shocking example of what can happen when governments believe they can break international law and violate human rights without consequences.” He emphasized: The response to Russia’s attack on Ukraine has shown us what can be done when there is political will. According to the Secretary General of Amnesty International, these strict sanctions should be a plan to deal with other human rights violations (in other countries).
Amnesty International emphasized that the fact that the West uses double standards has allowed China, Egypt and Saudi Arabia to avoid criticism of their human rights records. Accordingly, double standards and inadequate responses to human rights violations have led to impunity and instability around the world. Amnesty International particularly criticized the West’s deafening silence on Saudi Arabia’s human rights record, its inaction towards Egypt and its refusal to confront Israel’s apartheid system against the Palestinians.
“Marcus Biko”, the Secretary General of Amnesty International in Germany, also said that Russia’s war in Ukraine acts as an accelerator that aggravates the negative developments of human rights. Addressing Germany and the European Union, he said: “Anyone who complains and wants other countries to respect human rights should first organize their front door.”
Biko also evaluated the acceptance of more than one million refugees from Ukraine by Germany as good and important. But giving people support also means providing resources to ensure they are well-adjusted and able to participate in community life, he added. He emphasized: Municipalities should be permanently supported by the federal government. There should also be no double standards. Biko demanded: non-bureaucratic assistance to the people of Ukraine should be a plan to deal with people who seek support in Germany from all over the world.
He emphasized that last year 103 million people left their homes worldwide, which is 20 million more than in 2021 and more than ever before.
Biko also warned that it is important that freedom of assembly in Germany remains a valuable asset given the rise in government violence against protest movements around the world. This is why Amnesty International is concerned that more and more federal states are passing repressive assembly laws that limit the right to peaceful protest and expand police powers, for example in North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria, and most recently in Hessen.
