American senator’s plan to cut off arms sales to Saudi Arabia.
The representative of the US Senate has introduced a plan to stop the sale of American weapons to Saudi Arabia.
“Richard Blumenthal”, a representative of the US Senate, has introduced a plan to stop the sale of US weapons to Saudi Arabia.
Richard Blumenthal, a Democratic lawmaker in the US Senate, wrote on his Twitter account about his plan: “This simple, but urgent plan to sell weapons to Saudi Arabia after their very disturbing and destructive decision to align with Russia at this historic moment. It stops.”
Blumenthal is referring to the decision that OPEC+ made last week to cut 2 million barrels of oil per day. The spokesperson of the American government said that following this decision, it is looking for a review of relations with Saudi Arabia.
Blumenthal continued to write: “The Saudis should reverse the oil supply cut. This decision will help Russia’s malicious attack, put the world economy at risk and lead to an increase in fuel prices at American gas stations. “We cannot send highly sensitive technologies to a country that positions itself as a nefarious terrorist adversary.”
The media have reported that following the OPEC Plus action, the fever of punishing Saudi Arabia has risen in America, especially among members of Congress. A few days ago, Blumenthal wrote in a note: “America should not provide this type of strategic defense systems to one of the allies of our greatest enemy.”
On Monday, Bob Menendez, the chairman of the foreign relations committee of the US Senate, asked the US government to stop all cooperation with Saudi Arabia.
“There is no place to play a role on either side of this conflict,” he said. “I will not give the green light for any kind of cooperation with Riyadh unless Saudi Arabia reconsiders its position on the war in Ukraine.”
