Algerian President: We will continue to support Russia despite Western pressure.
The president of Algeria said during his trip to Moscow that this country is under pressure from Western countries not to cooperate with Russia.
Today (Thursday), Algerian President Abdelmadjid Teboun arrived in Moscow, the capital of Russia, to attend the African-Russian meeting in St. Petersburg and was welcomed by Vladimir Putin.
According to the website of Russia Today Putin said in a meeting with his Algerian counterpart that the relationship with Algeria is “important” and “strategic” for Moscow. In this regard, he pointed to the signing of the “comprehensive strategic partnership” agreement between the two countries and considered it very valuable for expanding the relations between the two sides.
Putin also said that the efforts of Russia and Algeria, among other factors, contributed a lot to the stability of the global energy market. Algeria has proven reserves equal to 11.8 billion barrels of oil, ranking fourteenth in the world in terms of having oil reserves.
Yury Ushakov, Vladimir Putin’s foreign policy advisor, announced yesterday (Wednesday) in a speech: “High-ranking officials of more than 15 countries, including the president of Algeria, are present at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.”
On the other hand, Abdel Majid Taboun also said: “Western pressures have no effect on Algeria’s support for Russia.” He further said that Russia and Algeria are witnessing the deepening of their relations.
