Al Jazeera quoted Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s personal bodyguard as claiming he had arrived in Uzbekistan.
According to Al-Jazeera, Ghani’s bodyguard, who said he had fled the country to prevent further violence, confirmed that the Afghan president had fled to the Uzbek capital, Tashkent.
The bodyguard of the fugitive Afghan president explained that Ghani, his wife, his chief of staff and his national security adviser had gone to Tashkent.
An informed source in Oman also denied Afghan media reports that Ashraf Ghani had arrived in Oman.
Ghani wrote today on his official Facebook account about staying at a crossroads to make a decision: “Either I had to face the Taliban armed forces who wanted to enter the (presidential) palace or the dear country I dedicated my life to protect. I am leaving.”
He continued that if countless compatriots were still martyred and faced the destruction of Kabul, the result would be a great humanitarian catastrophe in this city of six million people.
Ashraf Ghani wrote about the presence of the Taliban in Kabul: “The Taliban wanted to remove me, they are here to attack all of Kabul and the people of this city.” To prevent a flood of blood, I thought the best way was to get out.
