Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, a member of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council, on Saturday night called the US claim of Ansarullah being removed from the list of terrorist groups on the pretext of humanitarian aid “dishonest” and said, “if the US is honest, it will end the siege of Yemen for humanitarian reasons.”
Mohammed Ali al-Houthi wrote on his official Twitter page: “The United States and its allies are unwilling to reach an agreement, as was the case in the Stockholm peace talks, and the Saudi-led coalition and its Western backers refused to implement the agreement.”
He also said that the United States claims that it has removed the Ansarullah group from the terrorist list because of the humanitarian crisis. If this claim is true, why does it not lift the siege of Yemen to end the humanitarian crisis?
Al-Houthi added that the United States is playing with words to divert nations and continue terrorist acts [economic such as siege and sanctions] and aggression and siege against Yemen.
The US Treasury Department announced in a statement on 28 February that Ansarullah had removed Yemen from the list of terrorist groups.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced in a statement that Yemen’s Ansar al-Islam’s imminent removal from the US list of foreign terrorist groups.
He stated in his statement: “On February 16 [February 28], under the Immigration and Nationality Law, I will remove the name of Ansarullah, sometimes referred to as the Houthis, from the list of foreign terrorist groups.”
He added: “This decision was made due to the dire humanitarian situation in Yemen.” We have heard warnings from the United Nations, humanitarian groups, and members of Congress from both parties and others that declaring Ansar al-Islam a terrorist could have devastating effects on Yemenis’ access to basic goods such as food and fuel.
The Yemeni Ansarullah movement, which has been fighting the invaders of the Saudi-led Arab-American coalition since April 26, 2015, was declared a terrorist group by the Donald Trump administration’s foreign ministry, whose only crime is to defend the Yemeni people and country.
