About 200 Americans want to leave Afghanistan.
The State Department has informed lawmakers that it is in contact with 363 Americans in Afghanistan, of whom 176 are seeking to leave Afghanistan, according to the Congressional Information Service.
According to the report, the number of American citizens still in Afghanistan seeking to leave the country is higher than previously announced by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
Blinken has previously said that fewer than 200 or nearly 100 Americans are in Afghanistan and want to leave the country.
On September 5, White House Chief of Staff Ron Klein put the number of American citizens still waiting to leave Afghanistan at about 100.
The Biden administration has expelled 234 Americans from Afghanistan since the end of August.
