A Republican became governor of the US state of Virginia.
Glenn Young Kane, the Republican nominee for governor of Virginia, defeated former Democrat Terry McAliffe to become the first Republican to win the election since 2009, according to the Congressional Information Service.
According to the report, Yang Kane, who was unknown to most Virginia voters in early 2021, had previously served as CEO of Carlisle Finance Group.
The defeat is a major blow to the Democratic Party, where McAliffe served as governor from 2014 to 2018.
This defeat is a serious warning to the Democratic Party in the run-up to the 2022 midterm elections.
