97 international sports organizations have sanctioned Russian athletes.
A Russian official said that 97 international sports organizations have sanctioned Russian athletes after the Ukraine war.
The head of the law faculty of Moscow State University said that 97 international sports organizations have sanctioned Russian athletes after the country’s “military operations” in Ukraine.
According to Viktor Blazhiev, many international federations have banned Russian athletes from participating in international competitions following the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee.
He said: “According to the latest statistics of the Ministry of Sports of Russia, the International Olympic Committee, the International Paralympic Committee and 95 other international organizations have imposed sanctions against our athletes and sports organizations.”
Blazhiev also stated: “Twelve international federations have also decided to suspend the membership of Russian national federations or to expel them. Nineteen international federations have removed Russian representatives from their board of directors.
Russia ordered a military attack on Ukraine on March 5 (February 24). This development occurred a few days after Moscow officially recognized the independence of the republics of Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the goal of his country’s military operations to “demilitarize Ukraine” and “de-Nazify” this country.
Russia has also announced that Ukraine has not fulfilled its obligations under the Minsk agreements that were reached in 2014 and 2015 to resolve the existing conflicts between the separatists and Kyiv.
In response to Russia’s military action, western countries have announced sanctions against most of the financial institutions, the energy sector and the political elite of Moscow on several occasions, and among other things, they have cut off the connection of several banks in this country with the SWIFT banking messaging system.
However, the boycott of Russian sports bodies, in view of the slogans of world sports bodies regarding the separation of sports from politics, showed the double standards of the Western world.
