British military offer to Ukraine during Johnson’s hasty trip to Kiev.
The British prime minister made a new military offer to Kiev during his second visit to Ukraine since the start of the conflict with Russia.
During a second visit to Ukraine on Friday evening, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson offered new military assistance to the president.
As Britain seeks to play a leading role among Western nations in supporting Ukraine against Russia, Boris Johnson once again traveled to Kiev with the aim of “changing the equation” of war.
Johnson’s hasty and unannounced visit to Ukraine comes as the European Union agrees to grant Kiev candidate status, and Brussels and Washington step up their efforts to support the Ukrainians.
According to the British Times, Johnson met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelinsky and suggested that the British army provide military training to 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers within 120 days.
The British Prime Minister, who arrived in Kiev two days after the visit of the leaders of France, Germany, Italy and Romania, promised Zelensky: “We will be with you to achieve the final victory.”
On a trip to Ukraine, Johnson abruptly canceled a Friday evening local time conference with conservatives in the north of England, which was criticized by a number of them.
However, British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said the Prime Minister’s visit to Ukraine was “important” and that he had not been offended by the cancellation of his speech at the party conference.
The European Commission yesterday (Friday) symbolically confirmed that Ukraine and Moldova will receive the status of candidates for EU membership.
Welcoming the decision, Zelenski said: “Joining the European Union is not a political issue, but it provides opportunities for a decent and secure life for the people of our country.”
