After the Lebanese Minister of Information was forced to resign due to criticism of the Yemeni war, this time the Lebanese Minister of Agriculture criticized the war and called for an end to it.
Another Lebanese minister criticized the Yemeni war after Lebanese Information Minister George Qardahi, who was forced to resign over criticism of the Yemeni war before taking office, stressed the need to end the war.
Lebanese Agriculture Minister Abbas al-Haj Hassan stressed in a televised interview that the war in Yemen must end and stressed the need to end the war, which has left “hundreds of thousands dead, homeless and hungry.”
He stated: “Regardless of the cause of this war and who wants to win it, this war must end.” This war is the greatest war that must end today. On December 3, 2021, the Lebanese Minister of Information submitted his resignation to Lebanese President Michel Aoun and Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati after tensions in Riyadh and Beirut over his remarks against the Saudi coalition’s invasion of Yemen.
George Qardahi is the second Lebanese minister to be forced to resign in less than a year for commenting on Saudi actions.
On May 19, Lebanese Foreign Minister Charbel Wahba was forced to resign after making statements about the assassination of Jamal Khashgechi.
Recent tensions between Lebanon and the Gulf states, particularly Saudi Arabia, began when Lebanese Information Minister George Qardahi called for a halt to the war against Yemen in a televised interview prior to his appointment.
Asked how he assessed the current developments in Yemen, Qardahi said, “The brutal aggression against Yemen, which has been going on for eight years, must stop. “What the Yemenis are doing is their legal right to defend themselves, and I respect the resilience of the Yemeni people in the face of this aggression.”
