Dublin:
The Irish government has slapped a 26 266 million fine on WhatsApp for violating privacy laws. Which is being called the biggest penalty in the data protection law.
According to ARY News, following pressure from the European Union’s privacy agency, Ireland’s Data Protection Regulatory Authority on Thursday fined Facebook-owned mobile application WhatsApp.
WhatsApp has been fined 5 225 million (6 226 million) by an Irish government agency.
The regulator said in a statement that WhatsApp shared users’ information with Facebook without informing them, and that the data was not protected, despite the indication. Could not be satisfied with the violation and could not provide any explanation.
According to the report, after two years of investigation, the Irish authorities imposed a fine on WhatsApp, which is being considered as the biggest fine in the data protection law. Regulators had recommended a fine of 50 million euros, but the agency imposed four times the fine.
On the other hand, the WhatsApp management, while announcing the appeal against the decision, said that “the decision made by the authority is not appropriate, we take care of the privacy of the users in every case.” More than two dozen cases from technology companies are under investigation.
