Sao Paulo:
An eight-year-old Brazilian girl has stunned astronomers around the world by setting a new record by discovering 18 planets in a major feat. The youngest uneducated astronomer has been honored.
Nicole Oliveira, an 8-year-old Brazilian girl, has been named the world’s youngest uneducated astronomer. Named ‘Asteroid Hunter’, it gives children the opportunity to discover space objects.
Haley Marzio Rodriguez, a professor of astronomy at Nicole, says the girl has such a keen eye that she can quickly identify asteroids and help others. Under the program, Nicole has so far discovered 18 asteroids. An extraordinary endeavor at this age, the planets are named after Nicole’s parents, family and famous Brazilian scientists.
NASA has also given him a certificate for every discovery. Nicole broke the record of 18-year-old Luigi Cinino of Italy in the discovery of asteroids, who discovered one asteroid each in 1998 and 1999.
However, it can take many years to verify Nicole’s 18 discoveries as asteroids, as it takes five years to verify a planet, after which the planet is given a formal name, but if that happens Nicole will become the youngest person in the world to be officially called the discoverer of a planet. Nicole, who ordered binoculars from her parents at the age of four, wants to become an aerospace engineer in the future.
