Islamabad :
The recent visit of the Pakistani intelligence mission to the United States not only did not help reduce the level of mistrust between the two countries, but Washington’s pretense of friendly relations provoked protests in Islamabad and caused Pakistan to draw a new line for the Joe Biden government.
According to sources on Wednesday, last week’s visit to Washington by the National Security Adviser and the head of Pakistan’s military intelligence service and intensive consultations with the US side for several days did not help clear the dusty atmosphere in relations between the two countries, but Islamabad continues to be ignored. The Biden government is complaining.
During a visit to Washington, Pakistan’s National Security Adviser Moayed Yusuf spoke of an agreement with his US counterpart to move forward and repair relations, but the Biden administration’s disregard for Islamabad and Biden’s reluctance to make a single phone call to the prime minister. Pakistan has caused the government to draw a new line for the United States.
Imran Khan’s national security adviser warned the US government that if the Biden government continued to ignore Islamabad, we had options on the table.
In an interview with the Financial Times, he did not mention the nature of Pakistan’s options in the face of the US government’s indifference to relations between the two countries or how Islamabad responds, but added that the Americans see Biden’s non-contact with the Pakistani prime minister as technical or other issues. That is, people do not believe in such a logic, and if Washington limits relations with Islamabad to security needs, Pakistan will try other options.
Meanwhile, a US State Department spokesman said yesterday that the country recognizes Pakistan’s vital role in bringing peace to Afghanistan and wants Islamabad to continue to play a role.
The Financial Times writes that Pakistan’s national security adviser is complaining about the cold US approach to that country, while Washington is desperately trying to prevent the Taliban from seizing power in Kabul.
Imran Khan’s national security adviser’s visit to Washington is the second meeting between a senior Pakistani official and the new US’s national security adviser. Moeed Yousef met with his US counterpart Jake Sullivan in Geneva earlier this June to discuss bilateral cooperation, regional and international issues.
