Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi questioned the FATF for putting Pakistan on the gray list and said that it remains to be seen whether the forum is being used for political purposes. Is FATF a technical forum or a political one? It should be noted that this forum is not being used for political purposes.
“As far as the technical aspects are concerned, we have been given 27 points and it is being acknowledged that we have fully implemented 26 out of 27 points. Significant progress has been made on the 27th point and more needs to be done,” he said. Intend to
Shah Mehmood Qureshi further said that in my view, in such a situation, there is no room for Pakistan to remain on the gray list.
Some forces want the sword to hang over Pakistan. All the steps we have taken are in our own interest. What is our interest? Our advantage is that there should be no money laundering. Pakistan’s intention is to realize that we are financing terrorism. We will continue to do what is in the interest of Pakistan. It should be noted that FATF has decided to keep Pakistan in the gray list.
FATF has decided to keep Pakistan on the gray list till the next review. The FATF meeting, which has been going on since June 20, ended on Friday in which a decision was also taken regarding Pakistan. The FATF said that Pakistan had implemented 26 out of 27 points. Pakistan was put on the gray list by the FATF in June 2018. After that, Pakistan had to meet the conditions of the FATF. Therefore, many laws have been introduced in the recent past.
“Pakistan will remain on the gray list for the time being. Pakistan has made significant progress in anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism,” he said. More work needs to be done on three of the 27 goals. On the other hand, Federal Minister for Energy Hamad Azhar while giving a press conference said that the real face of India was badly exposed on the FATF platform. India has been raising the issue with FATF. He said that there was no danger of Pakistan being included in the FATF gray list. The FATF President also acknowledged that Pakistan had played an exemplary role in implementing the FATF Action Plan.
