Expressing good wishes for the newly elected President of Iran, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi appreciated Iran’s efforts for peace in Afghanistan. Pakistan has maintained that there is no military solution to the Afghan problem.
According to details, a delegation of the Iranian Foreign Minister’s Special Envoy arrived at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi welcomed the Iranian delegation on his arrival at the Foreign Ministry. Issues of mutual interest, including bilateral relations and the Afghan peace process, were discussed.
Congratulating on the successful conduct of presidential elections in Iran, the Foreign Minister conveyed the best wishes of the Pakistani leadership to the newly elected President of Iran. I consider peace in Afghanistan essential for peace.
The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan has been supporting this position, not a military solution to the Afghan problem, a comprehensive political solution to the Afghan problem should be found through comprehensive dialogue, Pakistan and Iran were affected due to instability in Afghanistan.
Appreciating Iran’s efforts for peace in Afghanistan, Qureshi said that growing extremism in Afghanistan was a matter of concern, adding that an increase in violence could strengthen anti-peace forces.
