Sydney:
Experts have discovered for the first time the world’s rarest mammal, a flying squirrel, and it has been spotted at the foot of the Himalayas for the first time. Scientists have known it for about 130 years, but previously it was thought to be the only rare species living in remote valleys in Pakistan, but now researchers in Australia and China have discovered two more species of this flying squirrel. Yes, about which science did not know before.
According to an international website, Australian scientists have discovered the world’s rarest mammal in the foothills of the Himalayas. It is a flying squirrel that is more than one meter long and weighs 2.5 kg.
The discovery, made by Professor Christopher Helgen, a leading scientist at the Australian Museum, and Stephen Jackson, a research associate, was published in the Zoological Journal of the Lenin Society on Monday. Using data from practical campaigns so far, his team has confirmed that these large, furry squirrels have formed different types of populations in three separate locations, two of which are brand new.
They are named after the fleece flying squirrel from Tibet and the fleece squirrel from the Chinese province of Greece. Professor Helgen says the discovery will lead zoologists to a new science, a new mammal, the world’s largest squirrel. And surprisingly, they are being given a scientific name in 2021.
These new species of soft-spoken squirrels are genetically and physically very different from other squirrels. According to Dr. Jackson, the squirrels live at an altitude of 4,800 meters, half the height of Mount Everest, where most of the human population lives. Is empty and very few animals live here.
“This one-meter-long silk-flowing squirrel is the largest in the world,” he said. It is a nocturnal animal and has a long tail like a fox. There were already suspicions about the population of these fleece squirrels in China, but there was no documentary evidence. The Greek woolly flying squirrel discovered in the eastern Himalayan region is the confluence of three places of global biodiversity, the Himalayas, the mountains of southwestern China and Indo-Burma.
The second new species, the Tibetan woolly flying squirrel, is found in the southern plateau of Tibet, between the Chinese region of Tibet and the Indian state of Sikkim. Will be on All three species of squirrel live above the point where trees can grow, at altitudes above 2,400 meters.
Dr. Jackson said that there is not much information yet, but the teeth are very special and they get food from the thin leaves of the pine tree, which is an unusual food. They live in remote areas and all of them. These are just some of the problems that can be caused by hunting, losing their natural habitat and rising temperatures.
