With the departure of the PTI government from the federation, a major change is about to take place in the Senate as well. With the change of government, the Leader of the House and the Leader of the Opposition also change.
In the PTI government, Dr. Wasim Shehzad has been the Leader of the House in the Senate, while the Leader of the Opposition is Yousuf Raza Gilani of the PPP.
The Senate Leader’s seat is reserved for the Federal Government. With the change of government, the Leader of the House and the Leader of the Opposition also change.
Last night, the PTI government was overthrown by a vote of no-confidence in the National Assembly, after which Dr Wasim Shehzad can no longer hold the post of Leader of the House.
According to the rules, the party coming to power will nominate one of the senators belonging to its party or alliance as the Leader of the House while the PTI will get the post of Leader of the Opposition. Names will be notified.
It should be noted that PTI and its allies do not have a numerical advantage in the Senate. Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjarani belongs to Balochistan Awami Party but 4 out of 5 members of BAP National Assembly are from the current opposition leadership.
