The Islamabad High Court suspended PEMRA’s notification of the ban on telecasting Imran Khan’s live speech till September 5.
Chairman Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan challenged the ban on broadcasting his live speech in the Islamabad High Court, which was heard in front of Chief Justice Athar Minullah.
Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Athar Minullah issued a notice to PEMRA and the Attorney General suspending the ban notification of PEMRA while allowing Imran Khan’s speeches to be shown live on TV channels.
The Chief Justice said that PEMRA exceeded its authority by banning Imran Khan’s speech, in the present circumstances, there is no reasonable reason for banning Imran Khan’s speech. Issue an order, the notification of ban on showing Imran Khan’s speeches live is suspended, PEMRA should nominate an officer to appear and explain the issuance of the notification.
Imran Khan’s request
Earlier, Imran Khan had filed a petition through PTI lawyers in which he had referred to the torture of Shehbaz Gul in his speech and talked about taking legal action against those responsible.
He said in the petition that ‘my speech was wrongly taken as hate speech and therefore the order banning the broadcast of my speech should be annulled’.
Imran Khan took the stand that the law has given the right to take legal action against those responsible as a citizen, so asking anyone to take legal action does not fall into the category of hatred.
