According to details, the issue of increase in prices of medicines has reached the Senate. Details of increase in prices of medicines in two years were presented in the Senate. Prices rose 5.13%.
The reply said that the prices of low cost medicines increased by 7.34% while the prices of 102 medicines increased from 2.53% to 311.61%. It may be recalled that the government has increased the prices of medicines 12 times in 3 years.
In October last year, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan increased the prices of 94 life-saving drugs, including those for high blood pressure, cancer, heart disease and anti-rabies vaccines.
Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Special Assistant for Health Dr Faisal Sultan had termed the increase in prices of 94 medicines as inevitable and said that the prices of important medicines have been increased so that they can reach the people.
