KARACHI: After completing 75 years of independence, Pakistan has introduced its first domestically produced electric car.
The launch of the Made in Pakistan electric car, which was developed in collaboration with Dice Foundation and Pakistani universities and the private sector, was held at a local hotel.
Dr. Khurshid Qureshi, chairman of Dice Foundation, described the production of Made in Pakistan electric car as a milestone for the economic stability of Pakistan. The electric car, named NUR-E 75, will go on sale in late 2024.
The car’s battery pack has been developed at NED University, the electric car with advanced features will also be exported. The electric car will be able to cover a distance of 210 km at a speed of 120 km per hour by charging in 8 hours from a 220 volt electricity connection.
Dr. Khurshid Qureshi said that at present, the revolution of electric vehicles is coming in the global auto industry and Pakistan has also taken the first step towards this revolution. In the next five years, this project will end all the economic challenges of Pakistan.
He said that capital will be raised through series A, B and C rounds of funding for the commercial scale production of the car. The car will be launched under the brand name of JAXERI. In the next phase, it will be given a sedan shape and electric SUVs will also be produced.
A charger for vehicles is being developed at Sir Syed University of Engineering. High speed chargers are also being developed which will reduce the charging time.
All systems of Pakistani electric car NUR-E 75 are developed in Pakistan. The car has been designed by the National College of Arts. The launch event of the car was attended by eminent personalities from the engineering, auto sector and business community and paid tribute to the efforts of the entire Dice team and Dr. Khurshid Qureshi for introducing the Made in Pakistan car.
Dr. Khurshid Qureshi said that the large-scale production of the car will save the foreign exchange spent on fuel import, environmental protection, Pakistan will be at par with developed countries in the technology of electric cars and with access to the technology of electric cars the goal of economic stability of Pakistan will become easier for us.
