Federal Minister for Energy Hamad Azhar has said that the LED levy on the use of internet data has not been approved by the cabinet on social networking website Twitter as it was disapproved by imran khan
He said that “it will not be included in the final draft of the financial bill which will be presented for approval in the parliament”. Earlier, while presenting the budget for the financial year 22-2021 in the National Assembly, Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz said. He said that in the last few years, there has been a lot of progress in the field of telecommunications and this sector will generate revenue to a ‘reasonable’ extent.
He said federal excise duty would be levied on calls, internet data usage and SMS messages lasting more than three minutes to generate revenue.
The finance minister had said that federal excise duty was being imposed on mobile phone calls, internet data usage and SMS messages lasting more than 3 minutes to generate revenue from the telecom sector. This will impose a modest tax on a large section of the population.
The government has proposed in the budget to reduce the holding tax rate on mobile phones, saying that the current holding tax rate on mobile services is 12.5 per cent, to reduce the burden on the common man, for the next financial year. This rate should be reduced to 10%.
