Lahore: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Maryam Aurangzeb and senior leader of Muslim League (N) Javed Latif against PTI chief and former Prime Minister Imran Khan for allegedly ‘using religion to spread hatred’ in Lahore. A case of terrorism has been registered.
The FIR was filed by the imam of the local mosque at the Green Town police station in the provincial capital, Lahore, under sections 9 (offense of inciting communal hatred) and 11X-3 (responsibility for creating civil disorder). Filed under
Pakistan Television Managing Director Sohail Khan and Controller Program Rashid Baig have also been named in the case, the complaint said, adding that the press conference was shown on national television.
According to the FIR posted on Twitter by Punjab Home Minister Col (retd) Muhammad Hashim Dogar, the complainant said that he had seen the press conference of Muslim League (N) leader Javed Latif on September 14 in which he had called Imran. He made alarming allegations against Khan in the name of religion.
Javed Latif accused the PTI chief of attacking the fundamental principles of Islam by supporting the Ahmadi community during his tenure.
Javed Latif had said that when Imran Khan created New Pakistan, Qadianis became active in Karachi, didn’t Imran Khan say in an interview to foreign media that Qadianis will be given religious freedom.
After Javed Latif’s press conference on the same day, PTI leaders criticized the coalition government, especially the Muslim League-N, for using religion to spread hatred against Imran Khan.
According to the FIR filed today, the complainant said that the PTI Chairman is an ardent follower of Holy Prophet (PBUH) and a patriotic Pakistani who is known worldwide for his philanthropic works.
The complainant added that Imran Khan also made great efforts to include material related to Seerat-ul-Nabi (peace be upon him) in the curriculum at the primary school level.
The FIR states that in his press conference, Javed Latif called Imran Khan a non-Muslim and he deliberately used these words to incite his followers and disturb the law and order situation.
It added that there is a lot of anger among the followers and supporters of the PTI chief because of the derogatory statements made by the PML-N leader.
It has been stated in the FIR that Javed Latif made controversial remarks at the request of Maryam Aurangzeb along with the party leadership to spread religious hatred against Imran Khan.
The complainant says that a day after this press conference he saw another press conference of Javed Latif in which he insisted that he stood by his first statement.
The complainant demanded legal action against the Muslim League (N) leaders named in the FIR and others.
On the other hand, a senior police official told Dawn.com on the condition of anonymity that the cases are being prosecuted in response to politically motivated cases.
Earlier, a case was registered against the PTI chairman under terrorism provisions and the present Punjab government is registering cases against Muslim League (N) leaders.
“I don’t see any result in these cases, they may not even be pursued later,” the official said.
He said that the police have nothing to do with these cases, they are only following the orders of the government.
