Pak-India talks on water dispute have begun, Pakistan will put its objections and reservations on Indian plans before India.
Talks have started in Islamabad on the water dispute between Pakistan and India. Pakistan is being represented in the talks by Indus Water Commission Commissioner Mehr Ali Shah and the Indian delegation is being led by PK Saxena. Pak-India talks will continue for three days.
Pakistan will raise its objections and reservations on Indian projects while the issue of flood water supply will also be raised with India. Yesterday, a 10-member delegation of Indian water experts had reached Lahore via Wagah. On this occasion, Indus Water Commissioner Mehr Ali Shah while talking to media had said that talks with Indian delegation on water disputes would begin.
Mehr Ali said that India is allowed to make plans under the Indus Basin Agreement, but the design proposal should be in accordance with it, Pakistan has objections on some Indian projects. The Indus Water Commissioner said that the objections would also be discussed in the talks, rain and flood water data would also be shared, after the talks the Indian delegation would leave on March 4.
It may be recalled that in March last year, a delegation of Pakistan Indus Water Commission had participated in the two-day talks in New Delhi. The eight-member delegation was led by Indus Water Commissioner Mehr Ali Shah while the Indian delegation was led by Indus Water Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Saxena.
