ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has allowed the contempt of Election Commission proceedings against Imran Khan to continue.
In its decision, the court said that the Election Commission should continue the contempt proceedings against Imran Khan, Fawad Chaudhary and Asad Umar. The Election Commission should also decide on the objections of Tehreek-e-Insaf in accordance with the law.
According to the Supreme Court, no High Court has stopped the Election Commission from proceeding. The High Courts of Sindh and Lahore have only stopped issuing the final verdict. The Election Act empowers the Election Commission to act.
According to the decision, Tehreek-e-Insaf has challenged the clause of giving authority to take action. Even if the prevailing law is challenged, its implementation cannot be stopped.
It should be noted that the Election Commission had challenged the injunctions given by the High Courts in the Supreme Court.
