Islamabad :
Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser convened a meeting of the National Assembly on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 11 a.m. in Parliament House.
A statement issued in this regard said that the Speaker has convened a meeting of the National Assembly using the powers vested in him under Article 54 (3) and Article 254 of the Constitution.
The statement further said that the meeting was convened on the requisition submitted by the opposition which will be the 41st session of the current National Assembly.
It may be recalled that the joint opposition had filed a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan on March 8 and also a recusal of the National Assembly session.
According to the constitutional code, the speaker is required to convene a meeting within 14 days of submitting the requisition.
However, after 11 days had passed and no announcement was made by the Speaker, the opposition had threatened to hold a sit-in in the House if no action was taken in the National Assembly on the no-confidence motion by Monday.
However, an explanatory statement later said that we hope that the distinguished guests will be happy to stay in Islamabad and they will return home with good memories.
In an explanatory statement, he said that the United Opposition had changed the dates of the Long March only to welcome and honor the distinguished guests of OIC and directed its workers not to come to Islamabad before March 25.
It may be recalled that the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will be held on March 22-23 in the hall of the National Assembly for which the House has also been renovated.
