Beijing : During his visit to China, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi met with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart Hussein Amir Abdullah.
A statement issued by Foreign Office Spokesperson Asim Iftikhar said that Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had an informal meeting with the Foreign Ministers of the two countries during a meeting of the Ministers of Neighboring Countries on Afghanistan in Huang Shen, China.
The statement said that in view of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit to Moscow and the telephone conversation earlier this month, the two Foreign Ministers reviewed bilateral relations and discussed the situation in the region.
The Foreign Office said that the Foreign Minister reiterated Pakistan’s principled position on efforts to resolve tensions, including the Ukraine conflict, provide humanitarian assistance and find a solution through dialogue and diplomacy.
He expressed hope that talks between Russia and Ukraine would succeed in finding a diplomatic solution.
The Foreign Office said that the Foreign Minister informed that Pakistan was ready to play a role in finding a diplomatic solution, including on the platform of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
It may be recalled that the Foreign Minister is on a visit to China from March 29 to March 31, 2022 to attend the Third Meeting of Ministers of Afghanistan’s Neighboring Countries.
The Foreign Office said that Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi also met with Iranian Foreign Minister Dr. Hussein Amir Abdullah, during which the two Foreign Ministers discussed bilateral relations and the regional situation.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi expressed hope that a meeting of the Joint Economic Commission would be held soon to enhance trade and economic relations.
He also expressed satisfaction over the steps taken for the movement of trucks across the border, which would boost economic activities.
On this occasion, he also highlighted the need for immediate establishment of markets on the border for further enhancement of bilateral trade.
The Foreign Minister appreciated Iran’s support on the Kashmir issue and especially at the level of the Supreme Leader.
The statement said that the Foreign Minister also apprised India of the unprovoked violation of airspace by supersonic missiles and said that such measures would have serious consequences and would be dangerous for peace and stability in the region.
Highlighting the situation in Afghanistan, the Foreign Minister said that Pakistan and Iran were in close touch in this regard.
He said that Pakistan would continue its role for political and economic stability in Afghanistan, which would benefit the entire region.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullah vowed to further strengthen bilateral relations with Pakistan.
Hussein Amir Abdullah also invited Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi to visit Iran to expand relations between the two countries.
