The former federal minister appealed to the United Nations to intervene with the Pakistani government to stop the use of blasphemy against political opponents, to stop media censorship and to refrain from imposing restrictions on peaceful protests and closing down protest sites.
Referring to the letters written to the UN special envoys, Mazari said that Pakistan was a responsible member of the United Nations, a state bound by international treaties and law.
He said that the provision of basic democratic rights of the people at the state level was one of the basic duties of the government.
