According to details, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib has said that for the first time in Pakistan, Prime Minister Imran Khan has reduced the sales tax on petrol to zero instead of 17%.
Despite a 100 per cent increase globally, the government lost hundreds of billions of rupees in tax revenue for public relief, while the PML-N used to collect higher taxes on petrol despite lower global prices.
The Ministry of Finance has issued a notification to maintain the prices of petroleum products from November 16, under which the Prime Minister has rejected the summary of increase in prices of petroleum products. The Finance Ministry had sent a summary of Rs 5.5 increase in petrol and diesel prices to the Prime Minister.
Rejecting the summary, the Prime Minister directed that the matter of adjustment of sales tax be referred to the Cabinet. After yesterday’s decision, the Prime Minister said in a statement on Tuesday that Prime Minister Imran Khan had again expressed concern over rising prices of petroleum products. According to the Prime Minister, the flood of inflation has come from outside, oil prices have doubled in three months, there is a fear of further increase in oil prices, the crisis of inflation is till winter.
