Home Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has accepted the request of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Abdul Rashid for the deployment of Rangers, following which the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) general elections will be held on July 25. Election symbols will be allotted to parties and candidates on July 4 before 2 pm and the final list of contesting candidates will be published on the same day while polling will be held on July 25 from 8 am to 5 pm.
The CEC has already introduced a 16-page code of conduct for candidates of political parties and their polling agents, which calls for strict adherence to legal and constitutional requirements and other guidelines.
Under the Code of Conduct, no candidate, including the Prime Minister, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and Ministers of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, will be allowed to use government resources, especially vehicles, for the election campaign, otherwise he will be disqualified. The National Command and Control Center (NCOC) had earlier proposed postponing the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections for two months.
