The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani called on Prime Minister Imran Khan and the two leaders discussed issues arising in Afghanistan, including bilateral relations, and said that strong security in Afghanistan was important.
Prime Minister Imran Khan and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani also discussed the development of Afghanistan and relations between Pakistan and Qatar in various fields.

The Prime Minister called on the international community to show solidarity with the people of Afghanistan and take steps to ensure lasting peace, stability and economic development in Afghanistan and engage in positive dialogue.
Imran Khan appreciated Qatar’s role in the Afghan peace process and reiterated his desire to further strengthen relations of mutual interest with Qatar in the context of bilateral relations.
According to the statement, he also stressed the need to enhance trade, investment, energy and people-to-people contacts. On the occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister of Qatar appreciated Pakistan’s important role and efforts for regional peace and stability. The Foreign Minister pledged to maintain close ties with Pakistan on bilateral and regional issues.
Later, delegation level talks were held between Pakistan and Qatar at the Foreign Ministry. The Pakistani delegation was led by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi while the Qatari delegation was led by Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the situation in Afghanistan after August 15 was discussed with various foreign ministers and Qatar’s role in the Afghan peace process was commendable.
He said that Pakistan and Qatar have similar views on Afghanistan and both the countries believe that there is no military solution to the Afghan problem.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the absence of civil war during the current transformation in Afghanistan is welcome. He described the initial statements made regarding the incident as encouraging.
“An interim government has been formed in Afghanistan, we are keeping a close eye on the situation in Afghanistan and we want a comprehensive government in Afghanistan,” Qureshi said.
He also briefed his Qatari counterpart on the details of his four-nation visit to Afghanistan to formulate a regional strategy and said that there was hope for an end to the 40-year-old conflict in Afghanistan and now it was needed. That the mistakes of the past should not be repeated.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that leaving Afghanistan alone could give an opportunity to anti-peace forces ‘spoilers’.
He called on the international community to ensure financial and humanitarian assistance to Afghans and to assist Afghan citizens in the face of the growing human tragedy in Afghanistan.
The Foreign Minister also apprised his Qatari counterpart of the Pakistani assistance provided to the diplomatic staff and citizens of various countries in the process of withdrawal from Kabul. He said that there are vast opportunities for enhancing cooperation between Pakistan and Qatar in various fields including energy, food security, information technology, construction, tourism and we are committed to enhance cooperation in various fields including trade, investment, defense production. The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan was ready to provide security assistance to Qatar during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
On the occasion, the Foreign Minister demanded that visa facilitation be provided to Pakistanis wishing to visit Qatar. The two Foreign Ministers also agreed to further activate the political consultation mechanism between Pakistan and Qatar.
Earlier, a statement issued by the Foreign Office said that the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani would visit Pakistan today and discussed with Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi the progress in Afghanistan as well as bilateral relations. Earlier on Sunday, in a telephone conversation with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, Prime Minister Imran Khan stressed the need for lasting peace in Afghanistan after 40 years of conflict and instability. ۔
