Islamabad :
On the social networking site Twitter, Zulfi Bukhari, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Overseas Pakistan, briefed on the latest developments. He said that an agreement had been signed between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan for the repatriation of Pakistani prisoners in Riyadh jails.
He announced that an agreement had been signed for the transfer of 2,107 Pakistani prisoners in Saudi Arabian jails.
It seems that Zulfi Bukhari is informing about the agreement signed during Prime Minister Imran Khan’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia.
Without providing further details on the agreement, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Overseas Pakistan said that the signing of the agreement would speed up work on a promise made by the Saudi leadership in 2019.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman visited Islamabad in February 2019 and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said in a tweet that Prime Minister Imran Khan had visited about 3,000 prisoners in Riyadh jails. Attention was drawn to Prince Muhammad bin Salman’s decision to “immediately release 2,107 Pakistani prisoners from Saudi prisons.”
In October 2019, an official of the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation informed the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development that Saudi Arabia had released 579 Pakistani prisoners under royal legislation.
