Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has taken a big decision to give relief to people in electricity bills.
The Prime Minister approved the implementation of the solar energy project. He directed that instead of generating electricity by importing expensive oil from abroad, electricity should be generated from solar energy.
The decision will save the country valuable foreign exchange and billions of dollars. Under the project, 10,000 megawatts of electricity will be generated from solar power instead of expensive imported fuel (diesel and furnace oil).
In the first phase, government buildings, electric and diesel-powered tubewells and low-unit household consumers will be provided with solar power.
The Prime Minister directed for the early construction of solar power plants and to provide adequate relief in electricity supply to the people till the start of the next summer season.
The prime minister also directed the concerned agencies to start work on the project on an urgent basis and to hold a pre-bid conference of all stakeholders next week.
