Islamabad: The Prime Minister has decided to promote Lt. Gen. Sahir Shamshad Mirza to the post of General and appoint him as chairman joint cheif of staff committee and appoint Lt. Gen. Syed Asim Munir as the Chief of the Army Staff.
A federal cabinet meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to consult on the appointment of the Army Chief, in which Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Sherry Rehman, Aoun Chaudhry, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Aminul Haq, Shah Zain Bugti, Maulana Asad Mehmood and Riaz Pirzada participated.
After the meeting, Federal Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb tweeted that Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has appointed Lt. Gen. Sahir Shamshad Mirza as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and Lt. Gen. Syed Asim Munir as the Chief of the Army Staff using the constitutional authority. What have you decided to do?
He said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has sent the summary to the President of Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the President Secretariat has received the summary. After the approval of the President, the notification of the appointment of the Army Chief and the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee will be issued. The President will make both appointments on the advice of the Prime Minister under Article 243 of the Constitution.
