Prime Minister Imran Khan telephoned Iran’s newly elected President Syed Ibrahim Raeisi and the two leaders agreed to further enhance bilateral cooperation and ties. The leaders of the two countries termed the establishment of border markets along the Pak-Iran border as an important step.
According to sources, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday telephoned the newly elected President of Iran Ibrahim Raeisi and congratulated him on taking oath. The Prime Minister said that “the people of Iran trusted him and made him President, Pakistan welcomes him”.
The Prime Minister’s House issued a joint statement on the talks between the two leaders. According to the statement, the two leaders expressed satisfaction over the development of existing economic cooperation and agreed to further promote it. According to the statement, the two leaders termed the establishment of border markets along the Pak-Iran border as an important step. The establishment will bring economic and social benefits to the people.
Expressing concern over the deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that “after the latest developments, the influx of refugees into the Pak-Iran border areas is expected, which could pose a serious threat to both Pakistan and Iran.” Prime Minister Imran Khan stressed the need for dialogue and a political solution to the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan. The two leaders agreed on the need to continue to facilitate political settlement of the Afghan conflict.
Imran Khan thanked Iran for its continued support on the Kashmir issue and expressed concern over the human rights situation in Occupied Kashmir, Palestine. The two leaders stressed the need to resolve long-standing disputes in accordance with Security Council resolutions. According to the statement, the two leaders invited each other for official visits and agreed to maintain high-level exchanges.
